Live this unique experience in Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, only 7km north from Playa Guiones and the setting of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle’s nesting phenomenon.

The tour starts with the unique nature sounds produced by the Congo Monkeys, different types of birds and the Nosara and Ostional Rivers, which add adrenaline to the experience.

Once in Ostional and only 100 meters away from the National Wildlife Refuge station you will have the most amazing scenery on the world: thousands of Olive Ridley Sea Turtle’s nesting in this Costa Rican beach.

The Wildlife Refuge station opens from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. if you prefer to see it in the night or from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. if you would like to enjoy a beautiful sunrise while you can see over one hundred turtles arriving to Ostional.

After a short presentation of a Nature Guide at the hotel, take a 30 minute taxi ride crossing rivers to Ostional National Wildlife Reserve, in Ostional Beach. Quick stop at the ranger station, then on to observe the mother turtles lay their eggs in the sand. A quick taxi ride will have you back at Harmony on time for dinner or a late breakfast depending on the time you choose to go.

When is the Best Time?
One of these events can last from two to eight days with most nesting taking place at night. During the months when relatively small numbers of individuals nest the arrivals begin three or four nights after the full moon or whenever there is a moon movement. However, during the peak-nesting season from July through November any correlation with phases of the moon or the tides breaks down completely and a single "arribada" may leave even 100,000 nests.

What to Bring?
Water, long pants and shoes or sandals that you don’t mind getting wet. Rain gear is recommended during the rainy season. You will be supplied a special flashlight that does not disturb the turtles at night. Don’t forget sunscreen for the hatching tour and insect repellent for night tours.
