The Beginnings of Harmony...

Next year marks 20 years since Harmony Hotel first opened to guests. When we had the unexpected opportunity to buy the property, it was known as Hotel Villa Tay Pey, a simple bungalow-style surf hotel built in the mid-90s. The previous owner lived where the Healing Centre is now, with a pool that has since become the pond by the yoga studio. The parking lot was once a tennis court, and the large planter at the edge of the pool was a bar :)

When we arrived, the property was nothing like the lush oasis you’ll find today. Long before it became a hotel, the land had been cleared for cattle grazing, leaving little native vegetation or wildlife.

Our vision was to restore balance by reintroducing native plants to create food sources, shelter, and natural corridors that would bring animals back to the property. Over the years, with the help of passionate and talented partners, plus an amazing gardening team, we’ve planted and nurtured a landscape that reconnects to the surrounding green zones, with natural canopy trails for monkeys and water and food for local wildlife. Today, Harmony is part of a vibrant ecosystem where guests can immerse themselves in nature, just as we always hoped. Keep scrolling for a few more then/now shots!
